Mitragynine

Updated:

Definition

The principal alkaloid of Mitragyna speciosa leaf and the figure a kratom lab report leads with, stated in percent, mg per gram, mg per serving and mg per package. Not a federally controlled substance; it appears in the pending federal rule only as the numerator of a 100-to-1 ratio against 7-hydroxymitragynine.

Mitragynine is the alkaloid present in the largest amount in kratom leaf and the first row on a kratom potency report. The reports linked from this store's lab-results pages state it at 8.28 to 9.85 percent of extract tablet mass, 57 to 70 mg per tablet (NarcoBrands COAs); pressed leaf tablets from other sellers run about 1 percent, or 3 mg per 300 mg tablet.

Mitragynine is not scheduled federally. DEA's October 2026 notice proposes control of 7-hydroxymitragynine and mitragynine pseudoindoxyl and uses mitragynine only in a ratio: a product is covered when the mass of mitragynine divided by the mass of those compounds "is less than 100" (91 FR 65370). The same notice says DEA still regards mitragynine as a drug of concern, a watch-list term rather than a schedule.

Georgia caps mitragynine at 150 mg per serving, the only per-serving mitragynine limit the research found. Several states (Georgia, Maryland, New York) require the amount of mitragynine on the label; Maryland requires an exact number.
