What is the difference between kratom leaf and extract?
Written by: Author pendingReviewed by: Reviewer pendingUpdated:
Leaf is ground Mitragyna speciosa leaf sold as powder, capsules or pressed tablets at roughly 1 to 1.3 percent mitragynine, about 3 mg per 300 mg tablet; extract concentrates the alkaloids, and the extract tablets reported here hold 57 to 70 mg each (NarcoBrands COAs).
What is a leaf product?
Dried, ground leaf of Mitragyna speciosa, sold loose, in capsules, or pressed into tablets. One seller lists pressed leaf tablets at 300 mg of leaf each and "1.0%+" or "1.3%+" mitragynine by strain (Super Speciosa product data), which is 3 to 4 mg of mitragynine per tablet.
What is an extract?
Alkaloids pulled from leaf and concentrated, then pressed into tablets or dissolved into shots and tinctures. The three extract tablet reports on this store's lab-results pages show mitragynine at 8.28 to 9.85 percent of tablet mass, 57 to 70 mg per tablet (NarcoBrands COAs). A report for an extract is read in milligrams per serving; a report for leaf is read in percent.
Why are they regulated differently?
Because concentration is what the laws measure. Ohio schedules the "resinous extractives" of the plant and exempts leaf "in its natural, vegetative form" (Ohio Board of Pharmacy); Utah allows only pure leaf; Georgia caps mitragynine at 150 mg per serving; and every 7-OH line, state or federal, is a per-gram, per-serving or ratio figure that only an extract can approach.
What does this store carry?
Extract products with a lab report in v1. Leaf is a separate regulatory class with its own state rows, ready for a supplier. See leaf versus extract for the arithmetic and the state list.
