How this store ships: USPS and UPS, never FedEx, and where kratom cannot go

What USPS, UPS and FedEx terms say about kratom, why FedEx is never offered, PO boxes, APO and FPO, address checks against the state and local lists.

Which carriers accept kratom?

Answer

USPS and UPS, where state law allows; FedEx does not. USPS Publication 52, the Postal Service's mailability reference, has no entry for kratom, Mitragyna, kava or amanita, and requires only that "mailers must also comply with non-Postal statutes and regulations" on possession, treatment, transmission or transfer of what they mail (Pub 52 § 1-3; Pub 52 transmittal).

UPS does not name kratom either. Its United States prohibited-items page says "we will not transport any goods which are prohibited by law or regulation of any federal, state, or local government in the origin or destination countries," and puts the burden on the shipper to ensure a shipment "does not violate any federal, state, provincial, or local laws" (UPS prohibited items). Hemp and CBD are contract-only on that page; kratom is not mentioned. The research did not read UPS's full tariff, so the conclusion for UPS rests on the page, not the tariff.

Why never FedEx?

Answer

FedEx's United States Service Guide terms prohibit "any substance that has not been approved for a medical use by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and also has been listed as a Drug or Chemical of Concern by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, including, but not limited to, kratom and Salvia divinorum" (FedEx U.S. terms). That is the only carrier policy that names kratom, and it is a prohibition.

The research quotes the 2021 edition of those terms and could not locate the live FedEx United States prohibited-items page, so whether the current edition keeps identical wording was not confirmed; the policy watcher that checks carrier pages weekly is pointed at it. One kratom seller's policy says "all orders are shipped through FedEx" (MIT Wellness), which is shipping in breach of the carrier's own terms. This store's rate list never contains FedEx, the admin cannot select it, and the claims lint fails the build if it appears as a carrier option in code or data.

What do the larger sellers use?

Answer

Super Speciosa ships USPS Priority Mail and a regional carrier and lists USPS Priority Mail Express as its expedited option (Super Speciosa shipping). MIT45 and Golden Monk ship UPS SurePost, 3 Day Select and 2nd Day Air (MIT45 shipping). Kratom Spot ships USPS Priority. None of the pages the research reviewed requires an adult signature at delivery.

We offer USPS as the default and UPS as the second option at checkout, with live rates for both and nothing else.

PO boxes, APO, FPO and international addresses

Answer

PO boxes are accepted, because USPS delivers to them and no signature service is in use. APO, FPO and DPO addresses are not accepted, and nothing ships outside the United States. International shipment would put the product under import rules that differ by country and under the FDA import alert on kratom; the store does not do it.

How does checkout decide whether an address can receive kratom?

Answer

The shipping address is validated, then the state is checked against the store's state rules table for the regulatory class of every line in the cart, and the city and county are checked against the local exclusion layer. A line that cannot ship is blocked with the state named; the rest of the cart proceeds. The table and its citations are on the legality hub, and the policy behind it is on the state policy page.

The reason the check runs per class is that the answer differs by format: Ohio accepts leaf and refuses extract, and kava, once carried, ships to states that refuse kratom. See kratom law by state.

What happens if the law changes after I order?

Answer

If a federal order or a state law takes effect between the order and the shipment, the affected line is held, you are emailed, and the line is refunded. A product over the pending federal threshold would become a Schedule I article on the date an order publishes, which the notice says may be "on or after November 13, 2026" (91 FR 65370), and a Schedule I article is not mailable by any carrier. Orders already delivered are not recalled by the store unless a regulator requires it.

Timing, rates and returns

Answer

Orders ship within 1 to 3 business days and arrive in 2 to 7. Rates, the free-shipping threshold and the return window are listed on shipping and returns, with the items still marked TODO until the fulfillment arrangement is final. Returns go back by USPS or UPS only, unopened, within the stated window.
